WATCH: The Sentencing Bill

Yesterday I spoke in support of the government's Sentencing Bill.

As a former Prison Officer, I know how important it is that we never allow our prison system to reach the point of collapse as it did under the Tories.

The government is building 14,000 new prison places, but we cannot build our way out of this crisis. So whilst this Bill was born out of necessity, I hope that it can bring lasting and meaningful change to our criminal justice system.

I will of course be following the progress of the bill to ensure that the government takes account of operational voices when bringing change to our prisons.
