Today the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority approved a £160million investment in the re- opening of Doncaster Sheffield Airport.

This is not just an investment in planes taking of to holiday destinations but also in jobs, opportunities and economic growth in our city and our region.

A huge thanks to Oliver Coppard and SYMCA for all of their work getting this landmark deal. As well as to the incredible team of Officers at Doncaster Council who have gone above and beyond to get us to this point. Thanks must also go to Doncaster Chamber and the business community for their unwavering support and commitment through this period.

I am incredibly proud that this project is backed by our Prime Minister and Chancellor who have shown this Labour Government, working with Lee Pitcher and local MPs, believes in investing in all parts of our country.

I want to express my thanks as well to the incredible leadership shown by Ros Jones without whom we would not have made it this far. She is a truly inspirational woman who has done so much for Doncaster.

Finally to the brilliant Mark Chadwick and the #SaveDSA group who have led the way and shown the dedication and determination our community has to get our Airport back open.
