Doncaster Citizens Advice and Deaf Community

It was a pleasure to meet with the team at Citizens Advice Doncaster Borough to discuss better advocacy for the Deaf Community, particularly the accessibility issues in claiming Universal Credit and Access to Work.

UC is hard to claim if you use BSL — too much complex English and not enough in-person support.
Long delays with Access to Work mean Deaf staff don’t get the interpreters or tools they need.

I will be writing to the Department for Work and Pensions regarding these issues.
