APPG for Care Experienced Young People
Myself and Lee Pitcher joined the All Party Parliamentary Group for Care Experienced Young people at a special event discussing the Independent Review of Children’s Social Care, three years on.
We were incredibly proud that Fay, Caelan and Caitlin from Doncaster Children In Care Council were part of a select few from across the country who presented at the event, talking about their experience and the work they do in Doncaster.
Doncaster Council are one of a growing number of local authorities that recognise care experience as a protected characteristic in no small part due to the work of young people like Fay, Caelan and Caitlin.
There has been some welcome progress in this area nationally in recent legislation, including the prevention of excessive profiteering in children’s social care and better support for care leavers. However, there is still a long way to go to reform and improve the system for those currently in it, something which I have spoken about in Parliament on a number of occasions and will continue to do so as well as supporting the work of Doncaster Children in Care Council.
